Little Speech Oasis is a small, independently run practice. My mission is to support primary school-aged children (ages 4–10) across Hobart, Tasmania, in building strong speech, language, and literacy skills.

I will work closely with parents and caregivers, to deliver child-centred services at schools and through Telehealth. My goal is to empower children and their families feel confident in their communication journey.

Together, we’re creating strong foundations for lifelong learning, confident communication, and brighter futures in Tasmania.

Meet your speech pathologist - Janani Cariappa

I am Janani, a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist (CPSP) with Speech Pathology Australia, and the proud founder of Little Speech Oasis.

My journey in speech pathology began in 2014 in India, where I completed my studies in Audiology and Speech Pathology and gained early experience working with children and families at a non-profit organisation. In 2019, I moved to Adelaide to pursue a Master’s in Speech Pathology, then relocated to Hobart, where I’ve been working in private practice since 2021. I now bring this experience into my own practice, with a focus on supporting young children speak, read and write.

I believe in a balanced approach to therapy—where your insight as a parent combines with my clinical expertise; where each child’s strengths help them overcome their challenges; and where fun activities are paired with purposeful, goal-driven work. Outside the clinic, I enjoy starting my mornings with a walk on the beach, practicing yoga, and trying out new recipes. These routines help me stay grounded and bring a sense of balance and calm to my work.

Services

Focused on what I do best, while helping you find the rest.

  • I am here to work with you to support your child. I specialise in three key areas that help children express themselves and thrive both in learning and in life

    • Speech – Guiding children to pronounce sounds clearly so they can be understood by others.

    • Spoken Language – Supporting the understanding and use of words and sentences to help children share their thoughts, ideas and feelings.

    • Early Literacy – Strengthening reading, spelling, and writing skills to foster academic growth and a lifelong love of learning.

I believe that every child has a unique voice, and I am here to help it shine.

  • There are other important areas of communication development—like feeding, stuttering, early language, AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication), voice, and social communication—that I don’t currently support.

Every child’s needs are different, so I would love to connect with you to learn more about your child’s individual needs and see if my approach is the right fit. I invite you to get in touch with me, so that we can explore options together and find the perfect fit for your family’s journey.

My hope is that every child receives the right support, whether that’s with me or with other wonderful professionals.

Process

Take the first step

  • Tell me about yourself and your child’s needs. I will get in touch with personalised service options and clear next steps.

If I don’t think I’m the best person to support your needs, I’ll let you know by phone or email and share other resources or referrals you might find helpful.

  • I will schedule a welcome call to learn about your child’s history and your needs—before meeting your child.

I will then coordinate a visit to the school to meet your child and carry out the necessary assessments.

  • I will give you a written report, go over the results with you, work together to set goals for your child, and then begin therapy at school.
